Sitting for a portrait should be informal and enjoyable. I find that subjects, especially children, feel more relaxed and natural in their own surroundings, so to get the best results I will visit you in your home for the sitting. We will chat about your requirements: size, colour scheme, and style of portrait (formal or informal). I will plan a composition and establish the best available natural light source for the sitting. Then I will take some photographs, which I take back to my studio to use as references. (Please note that I usually work from my own references). A sitting normally takes between one and two hours. The finished portrait takes me between 1 and 3 weeks to complete depending on size and content. I generally work in water colours, but I am happy to do portraits in coloured pencil, ink and digitally. In the gallery above, you can see a selection of portraits in different media and sizes. A very popular size is my unique 5 x 7 inch portrait, which fits into any standard 5 x 7 inch frame. These portraits start at £150 and can accommodate a maximum of two individuals. I generally can't paint a detailed background in these portraits (as they are too small), though I can add some colour or pattern if the client wishes. I require a 50% non-refundable deposit on commission of the portrait. The balance can be paid once the portrait is finished and has been approved. - - - - - - - - - - - Prices starting at £150.
